If people do things that make me angry, I can still be happy. If people don’t give me what I want, I can still be happy. If some people don’t like me, I can still be happy. If I lose my job, or can’t find a job, I can still be happy. If I don’t get that loan, I can still be happy. If the check is lost in the mail, I can still be happy. If my car doesn’t start, I can still be happy. If the sun isn’t out, I can still be happy. If it’s raining, I can still be happy. All these things are true if I learn how to take and accept responsibility for my own happiness. Happiness is a choice that I can make. If I want things or people that support my happiness, I will seek them out. If I don’t want things or people that interfere with my happiness, I will move away from them and cut them out of my life, if possible. If I can’t have everything I want, I will accept it and learn to enjoy the things I can have. It is up to me to move away from unhappiness and create, build, and move toward happiness. I am responsible for my own happiness, no matter how others act or what they do.
