I must constantly practice being assertive. Assertiveness is the healthiest form of feelings management and expression. The number one goal of assertiveness is to take care of myself emotionally while not being overly aggressive or offensive to others. Another good term for assertiveness may be being “tactfully honest.” Tact and honesty are key ingredients in assertiveness. Tact shows that I am trying to be respectful of the other person(s) and their opinions, beliefs, situation, etc. Honesty shows I am being true to myself and not leaving important things out just to avoid conflict or discomfort. Do I have a good balance between tact and honesty when I’m trying to be assertive?
