Anger management makes sense, and almost everyone agrees with most of the guidelines and principles for managing anger and other related feelings. Then why is it so hard to do? Because when emotions are involved, intellect and logic often go out the window. We are, at times, unable to do what is right and what we know is in our best interest when we become overly emotional. This is why we must make every effort to stay as calm as possible and not let our ability to think rationally get shut down. This takes effort and practice. This is why the ability to walk away is so important. It gives us the space and time to keep our intellect on top of our emotions. We cannot allow “waves of emotion” to sweep away all that we have learned and know is right.
